SMP Partners Group holds launch event in Cayman, announces further expansion within Caribbean

SMP Partners firmly cemented their place within the Financial Services sector in the Cayman Islands, with its official launch event at the Ritz Carlton.

Following SMP Partners’ recent announcement of the completion  of their  buy out of RBC Wealth Management here in Cayman in May 2017 the SMP Partners team were delighted to welcome guests from the financial services, legal and accountancy sectors here in Cayman, and to provide an insight into its business, its team and its values

The Guests of Honour at the event, the Premier, the Hon. Alden McLaughlin, the Minister of Finance and Economic Development, the Hon. Roy McTaggart and The Minister of Financial Services and Home Affairs, Minister for Financial Services and Home Affairs, the Hon. Tara Rivers were welcomed by SMP Partners Group Chairman, Mr. Steve McGowan and SMP Partners CEO – Caribbean Region, Mr. Stephen Turner, together with other members of the SMP Partners team from Cayman.

The Premier, the Hon. Alden McLaughlin, and the Minister for Finance and Economic Development, the Hon. Roy McTaggart, noted that it bore testament to the Cayman Islands’ solid reputation as a sound and robust financial centre that SMP Partners had identified the jurisdiction as the location for the expansion of its global US$40 billion business, providing trust services, corporate services, accounting and tax advice and fund administration.

After thanking the Honourable guests, Steve McGowan took the opportunity to announce the breaking news that, subject to the approval of the Cayman Islands Monetary Authority (CIMA), SMP Partners had reached an agreement with Cayman National Corporation for the purchase of its wealth management portfolio. He went on to emphasise that SMP Partners would bring with it passion, commitment, effort and ambition, noting the importance of building strong teams, working hard but also having fun along the way.

Stephen Turner reiterated SMP Partner’s desire to embrace the Cayman culture within its firm, and its intention to give its team every possible opportunity for career progression and personal development, noting that the company currently employs nearly 250 people across its global offices in the Isle of Man, Switzerland and Hong Kong.

Recognising SMP Partners’ commitment to working with and supporting the communities in which it operates, Stephen Turner was delighted to announce that the SMP Partners’ Charity of Choice for 2017/2018 would be Feed Our Future. The team here in Cayman will support the charity not only financially, but also in terms of taking part in and assisting with events to raise funds over the next 12 months.
