Walkers is pleased to announce that Articled Clerks Yannick Whorms and Michael Testori have completed their legal training, both being called to the Cayman Islands Bar in mid-June 2018. Their applications were moved by Ingrid Pierce, Walkers’ Global Managing Partner, and Colette Wilkins, Walkers’ Insolvency and Dispute Resolution Partner, respectively before the Hon. Justice Williams. Yannick and Michael are Walkers’ 47th and 48th Caymanian Articled Clerks to be called to the Bar.
Yannick Whorms was a recipient of the 2011 Walkers Legal Scholarship. Yannick attended St. Ignatius Catholic School then undertook his LLB degree at the University of Leicester in the United Kingdom, graduating with Upper Second Class Honours in 2014. He then completed the Legal Practice Course at Nottingham Trent University and was awarded a Commendation in 2015. Prior to commencing his Articles, Yannick completed Spanish language immersion courses in Valencia, Spain and earned a diploma. Yannick was articled to Tim Ludford-Thomas, a Partner in Walkers’ Investment Funds Group.
Yannick commented, to the crowd of family, friends and colleagues in the court room, “Throughout the legal education and training process, Walkers has been instrumental in providing the support and guidance necessary to not only satisfy the professional requirements of the jurisdiction, but to excel from both a personal and professional standpoint.” Adding, “Given the strong foundation provided by the firm, and having now taken this latest step in my legal career, I am certainly looking forward to progressing at Walkers for years to come and to building my career as an attorney-at-law in the Cayman Islands.”
Michael Testori first worked at Walkers in 2010 as a summer student and received the Walkers Legal Scholarship in 2011. He completed his schooling at St. Ignatius Catholic School then undertook his LLB degree at the University of Kent in the United Kingdom, graduating with First Class Honours in 2015. As a part of his LLB degree, Michael participated in an exchange programme through the University of Kent which allowed him to attend the University of Hong Kong. Michael completed the Legal Practice Course at the University of Law, London Moorgate and was awarded a Distinction in 2016. He was articled to Shelley White, a Partner in Walkers’ Insolvency and Dispute Resolution Group.
Michael was also able to share the day with his family and a host of friends and colleagues. Michael said “As I begin a new chapter, I look back at my path to becoming a member of the Cayman Islands Bar with great appreciation. It has been an excellent learning experience and I have thoroughly enjoyed pursuing this goal.” Adding, “Walkers has continually supported me throughout my legal career by providing the necessary guidance both professionally and personally. I look forward to positively representing Walkers and the legal profession to the best of my ability for many years to come.”
