Maples Group Expands Global Dispute Resolution & Insolvency Capabilities with Addition of Three Partners

Maples and Calder, the Maples Group’s law firm, is pleased to announce the arrival of two new Partners to its expanding Global Dispute Resolution & Insolvency (“DR&I”) practice.

The global practice, led by Aristos Galatopoulos, welcomes Nick Stern and Quentin Cregan to its Hong Kong and Cayman Islands offices respectively.  Both lawyers will play senior integral roles within the Group and will work alongside dedicated DR&I lawyers based in the Group’s British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Dublin, Hong Kong and London offices.

In addition to these new hires, London-based DR&I lawyer, Christian La-Roda Thomas has been promoted to Partner.

The three new Partners further establish the Maples Group’s Global DR&I team as a preeminent practice where international clients who are involved in high-stakes litigation, restructuring and insolvency matters receive consistent and trusted market-leading advice in their preferred time zones.

Nick, formerly with Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer in Asia, has over 20 years’ experience working on complex multi-jurisdictional disputes, insolvency and restructuring-related disputes, shareholder disputes, schemes of arrangement and court-led restructurings.  Nick’s experience and market knowledge have been consistently recognised by The Asia Pacific Legal 500.  With an increase in restructuring and insolvency matters originating from Asia, Nick’s arrival is timely and his addition to the team will further support the Group’s international clients across Asia.

Quentin is formerly a barrister at 8 New Square in the UK, where he specialised in commercial disputes with a particular emphasis on intellectual property, technology, contract and commercial matters.  Prior to that, he spent a number of years working in the Cayman Islands and has experience in dealing with all manner of complex financial services-related crises and disputes.  Quentin also holds a doctorate in law from Oxford University.

Christian has been based in the Maples Group’s London office since December 2019 following six years in the Group’s Cayman Islands office, where he worked on many of the team’s flagship commercial litigation and restructuring engagements.  Christian’s many years of experience in the Cayman Islands makes him ideally placed to provide our European-based clients with time zone sensitive advice and support. Commenting on the new appointments, Global Head of the Dispute Resolution & Insolvency practice, Aristos Galatopoulos said, “I am delighted to welcome Quentin and Nick to the Maples Group, and to welcome Quentin back to the Cayman Islands.  I am sure Quentin and Nick will be excellent additions to our thriving global team.  We also extend our congratulations to Christian on his richly deserved promotion to Partner, which expands our Partner team’s footprint in London and helps us to continue providing first class support to our clients in these uncertain times.”
